Thiago Alves is a Muay Thai striker with devastating knockout power, excellent timing and when he fought, people knew someone was generally going to sleep or they were about to take a serious beating. He was on 6 fight win streak when we met and about to fight Josh Koscheck at UFC 90. he won that fight and we started to make some plans for me to come to ATT and document some his training. It just so happened that when I got to go, he was training to fight Georges St-Pierre at UFC 100 for the Welterweight Title.

On this Sunday even though he had several previous commitments and couldn’t shoot until that late afternoon, he was more than happy to do it. He showed up, opened the gym, got dressed and worked like it was a training day to make sure I got what I wanted.

I admire Thiago as an athlete, a father, a leader in the sport of MMA and he’s a great friend. This portrait series is one of my all time favorites as it’s fun, has an edge to it and it’s a beautiful look at a fighter that truly loves what he does.
