Suga’ Rashad Evans is running towards history in this image as he was 2 1/2 months out from winning the Light Heavyweight Title from Forrest Griffin at UFC 92.
Rashad loved to dress and he’s actually the guy that ushered in the practice of putting on a suit to attend a press conference. I remember people looking at him like he was going to a funeral, cracking jokes left and right, but it was the start of a practice that is followed today by a number of athletes. As a side note, Rashad Evans was the athlete used to create the Fighters Only MMA Award that had been given to countless athletes and brands. At one time, he was one of the most despised people in the sport and during his rise to stardom he encountered some of the nastiest treatment from fans and people in the sport.
He moved past all of the negativity and kept a smile on his face and I commend him for that as the private battles some MMA athletes face are beyond reprehensible.
At the time of this shoot Rashad was 13 - 0, with an Ultimate Fighter Tournament Heavyweight Trophy, 2 Knock Out of the Night performances and a UFC Light Heavyweight Belt in tow. The future was incredibly bright and he was running towards it as fast as possible.
