This photo was take on November 24, 2008
I met Randy Couture in Rosemont, Illinois on October 22, 2008 while I was documenting Anderson Silva for UFC 90. Randy’s trainer at the time Shawn Tompkins knew I wanted to meet and photograph Randy and he said to me.. “The next time you see Randy, walk up to him and tell him that Shawn told me, to tell you, to give me 10 minutes of your time.” I was waiting on Anderson to come down, in the lobby of the Sheraton Chicago O'Hare Airport Hotel and I saw Randy walking in, so I walked up to him and told him what Shawn said. He looked at me for a full 3 seconds, laughed loudly and said…How about you let me get checked in, I’ll give you my room number and we can get together once I’m finished with my day.”
That night I went to sit down with Randy and we chopped it up. We made plans for me to document his next camp and fight week in Las Vegas which was UFC 91.
This portrait was my very first portrait of Randy that I shot as he was leaving for an interview with NBC Television. I asked him for 3 minutes, and he said..”When a photographer says three minutes that generally means 20 minutes, but three minutes is all I’ve got” He stepped outside by his jeep, I had him stand against the wall of XTREME Couture and fired 6 shots. I had the shot on number 3 and we were done in about 20 seconds.
